PAARC Field Day Results

Congratulations to the PAARC Field Day team who put together another great operating event again at Welkinweir! Our preliminary total score for 2019 is 4,038 points compared to the 2018 score of 4,738. We suffered through poor band conditions on Saturday and getting contacts was a challenge for even the most determined hams. While our score is lower this year it’s still pretty amazing! We were able to plan ahead a try for more bonus points which made a huge difference!  View our 2019 Field Day summary. See the the Field Day page.

Mesh Networks Presentation

In case you missed the January meeting, you can view the the presentation on mesh networks from our presenter (and new PAARC member), Tom Nolan W3EX here.

Tip: WV3P posted ths on the Yahoo Reflector –
For those of you who were at the last club meeting, and ask the question “How far away can I get with it?”.  Some of those questions can be answered by using an online program that will give an idea of the area you can cover.  You can find it here:  https://www.ui.com/ .   Click on the Software tab and then scroll down till you come to the simulator called Airlink.  Click on the button, put in your address, and then put in the address of another ham to see if it’s possible to make the link.

K3ITH Private Rail Charters

At the 1/5/18 meeting we had a delightful presentation by Richard “Dick” Stewart/K3ITH on his private railroad car and some of his charters. Many hams know Dick as a fellow Rooster, and for his work with PARA (Phila. Area Repeater Assoc.).  Given that many hams are train buffs we had a strong turnout of members despite the freezing weather.  Dick bought the Francis L. Sutter Pennsylvania RR car two years ago and he and his XYL Cathy have been their own custom touches. This Amtrak certified 1914 Pullman heavyweight business car includes a lounge with originally installed working wood burning fire place, bedrooms, dining room, and full kitchen. It may be connected to almost any Amtrak passenger train and travel up to 110 MPH in the U.S. and Canada. Dick  and his family have enjoyed trips all over the country. He also offers charter trips!
