Jim Steiner, W3BWD

With great sadness we mourn the loss of Jim Steiner, W3BWD. Jim passed passed on to the heavens on May 25, 2017. It was only last December that we honored Jim for his service as a founding member of the Pottstown Area Repeater Team, the precursor to PAARC. Jim housed the 2M repeater at his home for eighteen years, and was a contributing member for over four decades. He will be deeply missed by his amateur radio family.

James David Steiner (W3BWD), 79, of Birdsboro, formerly of Pottstown, husband of Sidney Ellen (Torrens) Steiner, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017, at the Reading Hospital.

Born in Weston, he was the son of the late Rolland E. and Alva E. (Fuhrman) Steiner.Jim Steiner

Jim worked for 25 years at Robinson Clay and for 25 years at Micro-Coax, where he came up with numerous inventions. He was a member of PAARC and was an amateur radio enthusiast. Jim was also an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed model airplanes.

Surviving along with his wife is one son, Franklin Steiner husband of Polly Davis; two daughters, Karen Ludy wife of Ralph, and Donna Piffer wife of Charles; 11 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; and one sister, Gladys Dunlap.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday May 31, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 711 N. Franklin St., Pottstown. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park, Pottstown. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in James’ memory to Pottstown Area Amateur Radio Club at PAARC, PO BOX 1485, Pottstown, PA 19464.
