EAAR Field Day is June 28–29, 2025, at the Daniel Boone Homestead – Wayside Lodge. This free, public event offers Scouts and youth hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through the engaging world of amateur radio.

The Education Alliance for Amateur Radio (EAAR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 2016. Our mission is to promote STEM education by introducing youth and communities to amateur radio. Our team comprises FCC-licensed amateur radio operators, ARRL Registered License Instructors, and BSA Radio Merit Badge Counselors.

10:00 AM – Amateur Radio License Test
No testing fee charged. An excellent opportunity for Scouts and the public to earn their amateur radio license. (Preparation for the test would be recommended)EAAR STEM Field Day
2:00 PM – Foxhunting (Radio Direction Finding)
A hands-on scavenger hunt using radio signals—counts toward the Radio Merit Badge!
2:00 PM to 5:00 PM – GOTA (Get On The Air) Station
Experience real ham radio communication with guidance from licensed operators.

10:00 AM to 1:00 PM – Radio Merit Badge Class (SEE ATTACHED FLYER)
Hybrid instruction with prerequisites required.

10:00 AM to 2:00 PM – GOTA Station Continues
Making contacts and honing radio skills.
2:00 PM – Drone Safety & Technology
Learn about drone operations, FAA rules, and emerging technology (weather permitting).
🎖️ Earn the Radio Merit Badge
Scouts can complete the Radio Merit Badge in two steps:
Complete Prerequisites:
Using the resources provided in our Google Classroom, Scouts should complete requirements 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, and 9a before attending Field Day.
Attend Field Day:
Bring the completed workbook and a signed blue card to the event. A certified counselor will review the work and guide Scouts through hands-on activities, including operating a real amateur radio station and participating in a foxhunt.
Estimated time to complete the badge at the site: Approximately 3 hours.
