The Educational Alliance for Amateur Radio (EAAR) will be participating in Hawk Mountain Boy Scouts of America Council’s STEM University at Albright College on January 4, 2020. Weather permitting, they will offer a fox hunt ((transmitter hunt) and also on-air contacts to complete the Radio Merit Badge. Listen for them on D-STAR ref63b or the PAARC 2M repeater to coordinate contacts.
The Limerick Generating Station Emergency Preparedness Drill will occur this Tuesday November 19. As we have done in the past, PAARC has granted permission for Montgomery County ARES to use the 147.21 repeater and Berks County ARES to use the 224.02 repeater during this exercise. It is possible that some activity may also show up on the 443.55 repeater.
We are requesting that normal communications that would occur on our repeaters be minimized or curtailed during the drill. It is expected that the drill will be active between 4 PM and 8 PM.

On September 1st 2019 Ursinus College will be kicking off a year long celebration of its 150th anniversary. In recognition of this milestone the Education Alliance for Amateur Radio (EAAR) will participate in the celebration by hosting a special event station on Amateur Radio. The callsign for the station will be W3Z. The “Z” acknowledges the founder of the college, Zacharias Ursinus. The station will be on the air from 10 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time to approximately 7 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time September 1st 2019. The station will utilize the 20 and 40 meter bands. A special commemorative QSL card will be sent to the first 200 amateurs contacting this special event station.

Congratulations to the PAARC Field Day team who put together another great operating event again at Welkinweir! Our preliminary total score for 2019 is 4,038 points compared to the 2018 score of 4,738. We suffered through poor band conditions on Saturday and getting contacts was a challenge for even the most determined hams. While our score is lower this year it’s still pretty amazing!
