Ursinus College 150 Fest Special Event Station – 9/1

On September 1st 2019 Ursinus College will be kicking off a year long celebration of its 150th anniversary.  In recognition of this milestone the Education Alliance for Amateur Radio (EAAR) will participate in the celebration by hosting a special event station on Amateur Radio. The callsign for the station will be W3Z. The “Z” acknowledges the founder of the college, Zacharias Ursinus. The station will be on the air from 10 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time to approximately 7 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time September 1st 2019. The station will utilize the 20 and 40 meter bands.  A special commemorative QSL card will be sent to the first 200 amateurs contacting this special event station.

13 Colonies Special Event – 7/1-7

From July 1st through July 7th members of the Holmesburg, Phil-Mont, and Pottstown Area Amateur Radio Clubs, and the Philadelphia Digital Radio Association will celebrate Independence Week from the city where independence was declared, Philadelphia, PA. They will be operating a special event station using the club call WM3PEN. Amateur radio stations operating from the original 13 colonies will also be on the air.

The 13 Colony Special Event will be offering a certificate for contacting participating stations. You do not need all 13 Colonies to get a certificate. When you work WM3PEN make a note on the 13 colony log sheet and you will get an “Liberty Bell” endorsement with the WM3PEN call place on the certificate. WM3PEN will be offering a QSL card: send an SASE, or Green Stamp ($1) with your QSL to WM3PEN. Use the address for WM3PEN at QRZ.COM. You can also QSL via the bureau. SWLs may send a confirmation of reception to request a QSL card. Simply indicate the stations making contact with WM3PEN, time, frequency, and your receiving equipment. SWL stations should follow the same mailing instructions. WM3PEN logs are uploaded to LoTW and EQSL(ag). D-STAR and Fusion contacts will not be uploaded.

Austria World Radio Day 4U0R – 2/13-28

Members of the International Amateur Radio Contest DX Club (ARCDXC) [4U1A] will be active with special callsign 4U0R from the Vienna International Center, Austria, for the ‘World Radio Day’ (February 13th) until February 28th. Activity will be on various HF bands using CW and SSB. QSL via UA3DX, direct, by the Bureau or ClubLog’s OQRS. PA QSO Party – Oct. 13-14

The Pennsylvania QSO Party is the 2nd weekend of October, October 13th and 14th.  Known as the Friendly QSO Party, it’s a fun operating event for amateurs in PA and across the globe, and offers fun and challenge for both casual operators and seasoned contesters. This year the PA QSO Party is led by a new organization, the PA QSO Party Association.  Consisting of several Party enthusiasts, the group is continuing the over 60 year tradition. The Bonus Station for the 2018 Pennsylvania QSO Party will be operated by the Nittany Amateur Radio Club (NARC) operating under the callsign of former PAQP Chairman, Mike Coslo, N3LI, recognizing his years of service and dedication to the PA QSO Party. The NARC N3LI bonus station will be a multi-op operation located in Centre County Pennsylvania. PAARC is proud to sponsor the Single-Op High Power Phone plaque for 2018.

Rules and awards for this year have been posted on the new PAQP website, http://paqso.org .  The Party will be from 1600Z October 13 to 0500Z October 14, and 1300Z October 14 to 2200Z October 14, 2018, that’s from 12 PM Eastern Saturday to 1 AM Sunday, and 9 AM Eastern Sunday to 6 PM Sunday.  A “pre-Party” net is held 8 PM Eastern Friday night (0000Z 10/13) on 3.910 LSB +/- .

The Party is open to amateurs everywhere.  For PA stations, the exchange consists of serial number and PA county abbreviation.  Non-PA and DX stations should send serial number and ARRL/RAC section, or serial number and “DX”.  Complete details can be found in the rules on the website. Emergency Preparedness SET – Oct. 6-7

Oct. 6-7  Emergency Preparedness Simuated Emergency Test
The 2018 ARRL Simulated Emergency Test (SET) national emergency exercise is designed to assess the skills and preparedness of Amateur Radio Emergency Service® (ARES®) volunteers, as well as those affiliated with other orgs. involved with emergency and disaster response. Although the main SET weekend this year is October 6 – 7, local and Section-wide exercises may take place throughout the fall. Those who already take part in public service and emergency activities are getting ready for the annual SET, a dress rehearsal, next month.
