Sun., Aug. 10 MARC VALLEY FORGE HAMFEST
Mid-Atlantic ARC hamfest will be held at the Kimberton Fire Company Fairgrounds, 752 Pike Spring Rd., Phoenixville, PA 19460. Doors open for sellers not before 7 am and for buyers at 8 am. Doors close at 12 noon. Admission is $10 and entitles you to a door prize ticket. Sellers have an outdoor tailgate space for $8 (one car width, head -in parking) not including admission. An indoor table is available for $10 each for 1 to 4 tables or $8 each for 5 or more tables not including admission. Reservations for indoor tables are required by emailing hamfest@marc-radio.org. Aug. 3 Reading Radio Club Hamfest, W3BN
Saturday, 8/3 at Heritage Park, 992 Clematis St., Sinking Spring, PA. From Reading, go west on Rt. 422 past the MacDonald’s at Rt. 724. After about one mile, go left onto Park Ave. (just past the Sunoco station on the right). Travel on Park Ave. 0.3 miles to a dead end, then take a left onto Clematis St. Go 0.2 miles to the entrance of Heritage Park. Look for signs. The talk in station will be W3BN, on the RRC repeater (146.91/.31tone 131.8). For those using a GPS, the information is N 40 deg, 19.320 min., and W 76 deg, 1.950 min. The closest residence is 992 Clematis St., Sinking Spring, PA, 19608. https://www.qsl.net/w3bn/ The hamfest opens at 7 a.m. for vendors and 8 a.m for buyers. We usually conclude at noon. The cost is $5 for hams over 18 years of age, and $8 for sellers. Those taking VE exams, amateurs under 18, unlicensed spouses and children are admitted at no cost. If you are planning to take an ARRL VE test, please arrive at 8:30 a.m. to sign in. Testing begins at 9:00 a.m. The cost is $15 and a check should be made out to ARRL/VEC. Exact cash is also acceptable. One form of ID is required (or a copy of your license or CSCE certificate), and an email address and FRN number is needed.
Aug. 11 MARC Kimberton Hamfest
Sunday, 8/11/24 at the Kimberton Fire Company grounds, Route 113 (742 Pike Springs Road). Tailgating and indoor spaces. Doors open for sellers at 7 am, buyers at 8 am. Admission is $10. EPA SIMULATED EMERGENCY TEST – The SET will be held in the EPA on Saturday, October 7. (Note that in Montgomery County the LGS Drill will take place on Tues., Sept. 26 beginning at 4:00 pm.) ARES units in approximately 25 of the EPA’s 34 counties will participate in an exercise supporting the American Red Cross. The drill will simulate a widespread communications outage resulting from a CME event. ARES units will support Red Cross shelter operations by relaying critical email message traffic via Winlink. Last year the SET operated under similar conditions and more than 100 operators sent hundreds of messages in a highly successful event.
PA QSO PARTY – The 67th Pennsylvania QSO Party will be held on October 14 and 15. This operating event presents an excellent chance to dust off your HF rig and make some contacts. For event information and rules, follow this link: PA QSO Party Plans & Aids – PA QSO PA.
CAPITAL TESTING GROUP – Amateur radio testing in the Harrisburg area will be conducted by a new volunteer organization, the Capital Testing Group. The group is an ARRL-accredited VE unit that will hold testing sessions on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month just outside Harrisburg. In addition to the regular testing sessions the group will facilitate special needs testing in an individual’s home or an assisted living facility.
